Finish with conditioner as needed. For a quality shampoo, rinsing is the key. End with a rinse of cool to icy cold water for optimum results. Hot (or warm) water causes hair scales to relax and open up like flower petals. Scale separation aids in the process of the ingredients in a product being absorbed into the core of the hair shaft. Cold (or cool) water during the final rinse causes the cuticle scales to tighten and close down. Closed, flattened outer-layer scales are smoother and more uniform (than opened scales), which reflect light better. Closed scales do not catch on (tangle with) one another, resulting in shiny, manageable, frizz-free hair. Final rinsing in hot or warm water keeps the cuticles open causing them to catch onto one another and to not lie smooth and flat, resulting in dull, unmanageable, frizzy hair.
